Farzana, an 18-year-old woman from Ghor province, was killed after months of domestic violence by her husband and members of his family. According to reports, she had previously fled to her father-in-law’s home after suffering repeated abuse and told her mother that she feared she would be killed if she returned. She was later forced to return to her husband’s home.

Farzana was eventually killed after severe abuse, including having boiling water poured over her head and body. Her death has not received significant coverage from women’s media outlets, despite the continuing violence against women in Afghanistan. Her case has once again highlighted the vulnerability of women facing domestic violence and the lack of effective protection and recourse available to them.
