At least 8 women activists detained by Taliban in Kabul: Sources

At least eight women activists associated with “the movement for unity and solidarity of women in Afghanistan” were apprehended by the Taliban on Sunday evening, as confirmed by sources.

As per reliable accounts, these women were participating in a protest held at a residence located in Khairkhana area in northern Kabul when the Taliban forces took them into custody.

A video obtained by Amu captures the moment when a contingent of Taliban members entered the premises, making efforts to detain the women involved.The sources have additionally identified some of those detained, including individuals such as Ustad Khatol, Ustad Hajar, Hasina Sarwari, Farida Mohib, Toba Ataee, Lima, and two family members of Hasina Sarwari.

As of now, the Taliban has not released a statement regarding the arrest of these women activists.

In the preceding week, various groups of women activists initiated a week-long campaign against Taliban-imposed constraints on women and girls in Afghanistan. Through this initiative, they have called for the removal of all Taliban-imposed restrictions that have curtailed women’s freedoms and rights within the society.
