Kabul – Following the reactions to the Taliban’s compulsory hijab, the Women’s Movement for Justice and Freedom has said that the Taliban have insulted all Muslim women and girls in Afghanistan with their baseless vague religious decrees.

In a protest rally on Monday, they said that the Taliban are interfering in the most personal affairs of women by forcing them to wear the hijab.

The statement further adds, “The burqa is neither part of Islamic culture nor the culture of Muslims, but it is a tribal tradition forced by Pashtun male-dominated societies on their females, particularly in the remote areas not in the cities. We respect those who have chosen this cover, but we do not accept the imposition of burqa on all Afghan women who do not want to follow such tribal value.”

The women protestors have called on the international community to put pressure on the Taliban to end their oppression, adding that if the Taliban’s actions are not stopped, the social life would be narrower for women and men.

In addition, the protesters have asked the girls of Afghanistan not to give in to coercion and to go out in the same clothes as before, which are Islamic and in accordance with the culture of Afghanistan.

Recently, the Taliban’s Ministry of Vice and Virtue has ordered women to wear “burqa” as a compulsory hijab, saying it is the best Islamic hijab.
