100 female journalists have left their jobs in the past few years

Female journalists complained of threats from militias, insurgents, family members, lack of security in the workplace, all of which led to their resignations from their jobs

Head of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee, Najibullah Sharifi, says that since 2014, about 100 female journalists have left their jobs.

These women are from Kabul and other provinces, according to him, and have left their jobs because of lack of security in their workplace that created life-threatening situations for them.

Female journalists complained of threats from militias, insurgents, family members, lack of security in the workplace, all of which led to their resignations from their jobs.

Shakeela Ibrahim Khel, a famous journalist from TOLO TV, left Afghanistan after the 2016 attack on the television station’s workers, and took refuge in Germany, citing threats to her life due to her job.

President Ashraf Ghani has stressed the need for a secure environment for female workers, and that upon complaint from women to the authorities, the violators should be suspended and punished.
