Wardak mortar shelling triggers protests in Kabul

A mortar shell fired by Afghan security forces in Sayed Abad district of Maidan Wardak province killed nine civilians, including four children and wounded two others.

Hundreds of residents of Kabul city gathered in Abdul Haq square in Kabul city to give vent to their anger. The protestors were chanting the slogans of ‘we want end to war’, ‘bring security’ and ‘bring the culprits to book’.

The protestors said that the protest was not against Afghan security forces. “Afghan forces are defenders of the country. We don’t expect our forces to kill civilians,” said one of the protestors.

People from all walks of life had participated in the protest. The protestors urged the government to arrest the culprits and prevent from repetition of such incidents in the future. They said that the government should put end to mounting insecurity across the country and should ensure safety of people.
