The family of a gang-rape victim has called on President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to ensure the perpetrators are tried as they face death threats from the armed gang.

The woman was gang-raped a group of eight men in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan five years ago, Tolo News reported on Monday.

The husband of the victim who is a police officer has said the armed men are threatening to kill him and his family, forcing him to flee from his home along with his five children.

He asked President Ghani to bring to justice the perpetrators and said the concerned institutions have not taken any step in this regard so far.

According to him, the perpetrators are being supported by a former governmental official.

This comes as a group of five people were sentenced to death after they kidnapped and gang-raped a group of women in Paghman district of Kabul.

The execution of the men was welcomed by majority in capital Kabul and other provinces, but the rights activists expressed conerns regarding dozens of other cases of violence against women, specifically gang-rape of women and children.
