A woman has been found stabbed to death multiple-times and her body’s parts, including lips, cut off allegedly by a brother-in-law in northwestern Jawzjan province, police said on Thursday.

The victim, a 23-year-old mother of two children, was mercilessly killed on Wednesday night in Shiberghan, the provincial capital, police chief Col. Syed Zamanuddin Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The murderer had escaped but a manhunt was ongoing to capture him, he said.

Shiberghan civil hospital director Dr. Mohammad Haroon confirmed receiving the woman’s body with mutable stab wounds.

“There are more than 40 stab wounds on her body and her lips and some other body parts have been mutilated,” he said.

The gruesome incident comes a week after a couple was stabbed to death by unknown individuals in Jawzjan.

Provincial Independent Human Rights Director Maghfirat Samimi asked security organs to arrest the killer and bring him to justice. He urged the judiciary to award him a heavy punishment.

Samimi said 34 cases of murder and suicide took place in Jawzjan last solar year.
