The Faizabad mayor’s son stabbed to death a construction engineer in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Wednesday.
Col. Syed Jahangir Karamat, the deputy police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the victim, Ahmad Javed was on the way to his brother wedding’s ceremony in Faizabad.
The engineer’s vehicle came in front of a convoy carrying Muhammad Noor, the mayor’s son, in a city street on Tuesday night.
Col. Karamat said Noor wanted the wedding convoy to clear the road for his vehicle. After a verbal clash, the mayor’s son stabbed the engineer to death, the police chief added.
On Wednesday morning, dozens of Faizabad residents marched to the governor’s office, seeking punishment to the killer, he continued.
One resident said Noor had misused his father’s authority in killing the man, but there was no one to bring him to justice. He asked the government to prosecute the killer.
But the police chief said: “I personally visited the mayor’s residence today and he assured me the killer will surrender to police.”
