Boy, 13, sexually abused in Balkh

By ‌Zabihullah Ihsas

Police had arrested a man accused of sexually harassing a 13-year-old boy in northern Balkh province, an official said on Sunday.

A day earlier, Mohammad Nasir, a resident of the Pul Zori village in Chamtal district, told the police his son, Mohammad Ismail, was sexually abused by two men at gun point.

The father did not name the culprits, but said the two had links with powerful individuals. He also said police had not taken any action so far.

But police spokesman Humayun Hamnawa told Pajhwok Afghan News that a suspect, Syed Ali Agha, named by the victim’s father, had been arrested.

He said the father had accused two residents of the village of sexually assaulting his son. The police official said the accused were brothers and had no connection with powerful individuals.

Afghanistan Human Rights Commission head in the north, Syed Ahmad Sami, condemned the incident, asking security officials to thoroughly investigate the case.
