A man killed his pregnant wife believed due to a family dispute in the southern province of Ghazni, officials said on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old, Kobra, was stabbed to death by her husband at around 12 am in Nawabad on the outskirts of Ghazni city, said Shokria Wali, director of women’s affairs department.

First the woman was beaten by a gas cylinder and later stabbed with a knife, she said, adding there was no prior squabble between the couple. The dispute may have erupted because the husband was in a bad economic condition.

Wali said Kobra leaves behind a child.

Police have detained Ali Raza, the husband, and interrogating him over the murder, she added.

There was no prior family problem between the couple over the past five years since their marriage, said Abdul Razaq, father of the deceased woman.

“My daughter was happy in her husband’s house and has not complained of anything,” he said.

The director of public health, Dr. Baaz Mohammad Himmat, confirmed Kobra was first beaten and later killed.
