Pneumonia leaves 10 children dead in Badakhshan

10 children had died of pneumonia and dozens infected over the past 15 days

Ten children have lost their lives to pneumonia in the Raghistan district of remote northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Saturday.

A health team of Care of Afghan Families (CAF) had been sent to the Bashan village to treat infected children, the acting public health director told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Dr. Noor Mohammad Khawari said investigations by the team revealed 10 children had died of pneumonia and dozens infected over the past 15 days.

CAF official Dr. Farid said nearly three metres of snow had been recorded in the Bashan village, an 18 hours walk from the district centre.

There health team, equipped with all necessary facilities, had reached the village on horsebacks, Farid added. Another team is on its way to the area.
