The body of one girl was found in the Mohammad Khel area outside the capital of Khost province, the Quick Reaction Force commander said.

Col. Tahir told Pajhwok Afghan News the body of the unidentified victim, who was shot in the head, was recovered by security forces.

The victim was not a citizen of Khost province and the cause of her death was not yet known, said Women’s Affairs Director Khawar Amiri. An investigation had been launched into the incident, he said.

In a separate incident, two young girls were strangulated in eastern Kunar province, an official said. One of the girls died, and the other survived.

The incident took place late on Sunday in the Lacha Geli area of Narg district, according to Counter-Terrorism Chief Col. Abdul Matin.

The survivor was returned to her family, as were the remains of the deceased. The perpetrator fled the scene, and police have launched an investigation. Police suspect the perpetrator was a cousin of the victims.
