Young girl commits suicide in Parwan

There were five suicide cases registered in this province over the past one year

CHARIKAR: Reportedly dejected with her engagement to a young man by her parents, an 18-year-old girl ended her life by shooting herself to death in Jabul-Saraj district of central Parwan province, security officials said on Sunday.

In the last six months alone, over 250 women have committed suicide in the country, according to Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).

Col Muhammad Azim police chief of the district said they had arrested father, uncle and fianc of the slain girl.

Nasir Ahmad father of the (Muzhgan) admitted her daughter was not happy with her engagement with Haroon and committed the suicide.

"My daughter wanted to be engaged to Hamid," he said, "Hamid refused to accept my daughter after we had agreed her hand to Haroon."

PAN could not contact Hamid for comments.

There were five suicide cases registered in this province over the past one year, Sayed Hashim Hashimi told Pajhwok Afghan news.
