KABUL: ONE YEAR AFTER THE TALIBAN

The grave of Afghan famous singer Ahmad Zaher in Kabul

One of the places that I hoped to see since long time was the Shohada-e-Salehin or simply Shoda cemetery as it was known among the ordinary people. I heard long time ago that the Mujahideen forces immediately after entering Kabul in 1992, went to the tomb of Ahmad Zahir the famous singer of Afghanistan and destroyed it completely. Mujahideen by destroying a tomb of a musician showed their deep animosity against culture and art.

I saw this cemetery after 15 years and I was shocked to see how it has grown because between the years of 1992 to 1996 over 60,000 people who are killed during Mujahideen factions fighting, many of them were buried here.
